Agent Kim Thomas announced her desire to support the Bonnie L. Hayes Animal Shelter in Hillsboro this summer during our July Referral Rewards Program. Kim’s love of dogs has been well documented in past newsletter issues. Kim attests that the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter is a busy place. The shelter staff cared for about 2,000 lost, stray, abandoned or neglected animals last year. It’s open to the public six days per week and is there to feed and care for the animals 365 days a year. It’s easy to feel that working with stray and abandoned animals is an impossible task. The good news – and what keeps the shelter staff feeling optimistic – is that they are part of thousands of success stories every year.
When animals are lost, they work very hard to find their owners. Last year, almost 1,000 dogs and cats were reunited with their worried families thanks to the BHAS. When owners don’t claim their animals, or when owners relinquish their pets to the shelter, they work to find adoptable animals loving new homes. If Bonnie Hayes Shelter can’t find a home for a cat or dog, they work very closely with a network of shelters and rescue groups in Oregon and SW Washington that may be able to help. Every healthy unclaimed animal that comes to that shelter finds an adoptive home. Most of the animals that have medical and behavioral problems also find loving homes through their adoption program or rescue partners. Folks at Bonnie Hayes Animal Shelter like to say that if you are a stray animal, you are very lucky to live in Washington County!
Help us help the shelter by referring a friend to our agency this month. Each time we hear from a referral, we’ll send the shelter a $10 donation. You’ll receive our thanks, a coffee gift card, and gain an entry into our monthly drawing for a chance to win a $50 gift card from the shop or restaurant of your choice. Your friend will win too: better coverage, premium savings, or both!
Congratulations to the Cedar Mill Little League, which was the recipient of our Referral Rewards check for the month of May! Our non-profit for last month was the Canby Adult Center.
